Funding Sources

The Police Station Building Committee is pursuing multiple funding sources for Lanesborough's proposed Public Safety Complex to lower the tax burden and be as fiscally responsible as possible.

This page will be updated as more information becomes available.

$1 million  in funding through the State Bond passed legislature in 2022 for Lanesborough's Public Safety Complex. Once the project has voter approval these funds can be released to the Town for the purposes of constructing a Police/ Ambulance facility. More money can be requested each year through the State Bond, but funds will only be released to projects that are 'shovel ready' and have taxpayer approval.

"Line item 1100-2516

provided further, that not less than $1,000,000 shall be expended for the construction of a police station in the town of Lanesborough;"

Baker Hill Road District has given a gift of $150,000.00 to the Town of Lanesborough for the purchase of property for a Public Safety Complex. Please see the Press Release here

Lanesborough Police moved to a temporary Police Station at 545 South Main street in August of 2022 with rent paid until August of 2024. $65,000.00 in ARPA funds were approved to cover two years of the rent, moving costs and furniture at no burden to taxpayers.

Lanesborough Fire and Water District voted to waive the building hook-up fee of $3000 for this project. The Skyline property falls within the Lanesborough Fire and Water District and there would be no cost to the Town for water hook up from the man to the new building at this location.

Lanesborough Select Board voted to transfer $108,000 from 'free cash' to Stabilization in 2021 to be used toward the project. The Committee has discussed drawing from this sum to hire a grant writer and using part of this fund to pay rent on the temporary Police Station if construction is not completed by August, 2024 when payment through ARPA money expires. All transfer/ use of this fund would need taxpayer approval through a Warrant Article at a Special or Annual Town Meeting.

Grant Funding. The Committee researched many possible grants for the Police and Ambulance Facility throughout 2022 and the start of 2023. Because grant funding is not guaranteed applying for grants is not the first priority over seeking State Bond and ARPA money. Generally, grants can not be applied for until the project is approved by taxpayers, many grants are opened for applications from October through March. Representative Richard Neal's Office has said the Congressman will endorse any grants Lanesborough writes for the Police and Ambulance building.
